What’s better than a normal dollhouse?

A dollhouse with an elevator!

What’s better than a dollhouse with an elevator?

A dollhouse with an elevator AND garage!

Although a normal dollhouse would suit your child just fine, we completely understand wanting to get them one with all the bells and whistles!

If your child’s doll family has a car they like to get around in, they obviously need a place to park it after a long day of running errands.

Plus, since they’re so tired from running their errands, they can’t be expected to climb the stairs on their own. They need an elevator to help move them from level to level.

Fortunately, getting a dollhouse with an elevator and garage doesn’t need to break your budget.

We spent time searching for the very best dollhouses out there, and then spent TONS of time researching and testing to find the right dollhouse for you.

You will get a rating for each dollhouse we researched, and a brief overview of our likes and dislikes.

We then do a “deep dive” into all the features of our favorite dollhouse with an elevator and garage.

Don’t guess which one is best – check out our favorite below!

Best Dollhouse with Elevator and Garage

This specific type of dollhouse is unique, and there were only a handful of choices to research and test.

Even though we feel our favorite dollhouse is best for most families, you may find that a different option is right for you. This is especially true if you’re looking for a gender-neutral option.

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse

The KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse is our top choice for a dollhouse with an elevator and garage.

It’s quite big overall and is tall enough for most of the popular 12-inch dolls – including Barbie dolls.

Considering the size, it’s budget-friendly and is actually one of the cheaper options we looked at. Don’t let that fool you though, you still get a ton of neat features with the Shimmer Mansion dollhouse.

Whether as a holiday or birthday gift, or maybe even just because, this dollhouse is sure to be a hit with girls of all ages.

Which Products Did We Look At?

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse4.8 Stars
Melissa & Doug Hi-Rise Wooden Dollhouse and Furniture Set4.5 Stars
Barbie DreamHouse4.4 Stars
KidKraft Majestic Mansion Dollhouse4.1 Stars
KidKraft Grand Estate Dollhouse3.2 Stars

Since there were only a few dollhouses we could find that had both an elevator and a garage, there is quite a bit of variation in the different looks and designs.

Although the KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse is our favorite, we felt that there was another choice that was a close second, especially if you’re looking for a dollhouse for a boy.

Melissa & Doug Hi-Rise Wooden Dollhouse and Furniture Set

If you’re looking for a gender-neutral dollhouse that is designed for toddlers and young kids, the Melissa & Doug Hi-Rise Wooden Dollhouse is a great choice.

In fact, we like this choice so much that we actually feel it’s the best dollhouse with an elevator and garage for toddlers.

The wood used in this dollhouse is much sturdier and should withstand any “rough and tumble” play your toddler can throw at it.

It also comes with accessories, such as a dollhouse family and furniture, that make it a good option if your child doesn’t already have small dolls of their own.

Plus, it’s made by Melissa & Doug, one of the premiere toy manufacturers. They back each of their products by a 100% Happiness Guarantee, ensuring that you’re covered the whole time you own this dollhouse.

If you’re looking for any of these features, make sure to check out the Hi-Rise Wooden Dollhouse.

Barbie DreamHouse

Probably the best-known dollhouse with an elevator and garage, the Barbie DreamHouse is a good alternative option if you’re looking for an officially-licensed dollhouse.

This dollhouse is a fun choice for Barbie fans young and old. It comes with most of the accessories your daughter’s Barbie will need to have a good time in her new house.

The plastic design makes it easy to clean and keep it looking new, but we felt that the plastic wasn’t as sturdy as we would have hoped.

There were also several parents that commented on how difficult the assembly was, saying it took longer than expected to put it together.

For the price, the Barbie DreamHouse just doesn’t feel that big. Other choices will give you more dollhouse for the money, while still being big enough for Barbie dolls.

KidKraft Majestic Mansion Dollhouse

Once we had our list of all the dollhouses with an elevator and garage, we were hoping that the KidKraft Majestic Mansion Dollhouse was going to be our favorite.

The design is adorable and cute. It’s also surprising how affordable this dollhouse is, considering its large size.

This dollhouse is more difficult to put together than some of the other options above. The instructions weren’t as intuitive as we would have liked, and we needed to use some wood glue to get a couple of spots to hold.

Once together, the dollhouse is super cute and a great choice for Barbie dolls. We think that girls from 3- to 12-years old would really like this style house.

If you are mechanically inclined and want to tackle a big project, the Majestic Mansion could be an option for you.

We just don’t see it as a good fit for the average, everyday parent (like us).

KidKraft Grand Estate Dollhouse

Let us begin by saying that the KidKraft Grand Estate Dollhouse is the biggest dollhouse we’ve ever seen.

It’s GINORMOUS and has got to be about the same size as many of the tiny homes we see on HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters.

Saying that, it’s a wonderful choice if your child is the most popular kid in school and routinely has all of her friends over to play.

We may be a little unfair with our tongue-in-cheek criticisms of this house, but we just don’t think the size is practical for most families.

Plus, the assembly can be a little tricky because of its size. It’s also the most expensive dollhouse we looked at during our research.

If your daughter has the room for this big of a dollhouse and has a Barbie doll collection that numbers into the 100s, this may be a good choice for you.

Who Would Buy The KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse?

The KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse has a broad appeal among girls of all ages with all different sizes of dolls. The elevator is a little narrow, so the dolls will have to be tall and thin – similar to a Barbie doll.

Big dollhouse family dolls will also fit in this dollhouse, but you will want to make sure they’re at least 6 inches tall. If they’re shorter, they will look too small for the rooms and furniture.

This dollhouse is tall and wide, so you want to make sure that your daughter has space in her room or play area before you buy it.

If you’re looking to get a lot of dollhouse for your money, this is a great, budget-friendly option.

Your daughter will receive 30 accessories with this dollhouse. Those fun accessories include a treadmill, a desk and laptop, a working lamp, and even a “flushing” toilet.

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse

Durable Wood Construction

The KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse is made from wood and is durable enough withstand years of playtime.

Saying that, if your child still plays rough with her toys, you may want to hold off getting this as some of the floor and wall panels are thinner.

Lots of Levels

With four levels of fun, it’s a good thing that this dollhouse has an elevator. Each level is fun and unique, offering different rooms such as an office, gym, outdoor covered patio, and loft bedroom.

Plus, the bottom level has a garage where your daughter can park her doll family’s car after a long day around the town.

Good for Group Play

The large size of this dollhouse makes it a great choice for group play. If you have multiple kids, or if you’re purchasing a dollhouse for a daycare or preschool, the KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse is large enough to accommodate.

If your kids are good at sharing, we think you could easily fit four or five kids around this dollhouse.

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse

Great for Barbie Dolls

If your daughter is old enough to have a Barbie collection, this dollhouse makes a great home for them to enjoy. The bright pinks and modern design are true to Barbie form and will fit any current Barbie accessories your daughter already has.

As stated above, most 12-inch dolls will fit in this dollhouse.

All-in-one design – There’s no “nickel-and-diming” after you purchase since all the accessories your daughter needs are included.

KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse

Great value – At this price point, you would expect a dollhouse about half the size. It’s amazing how much you get at such a relatively affordable price.

Versatile – Although most girls use Barbie dolls with this dollhouse, it’s versatile and can be used with dolls that are 12 inches or shorter.

Cons

Assembly required – No pieces on this dollhouse come pre-assembled. You will have to put all the pieces together on your own, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time if this is a holiday or birthday gift.

Garage door – Rather than swing up like a normal garage door, the garage door is split in the middle and swings open. It’s not a dealbreaker, it’s just different than most garage doors.

We really love the KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse and think that you will too. We initially thought there were going to be some glaring problems with this dollhouse, especially considering the size and how low the price was – but we were wrong!

This dollhouse is great and the best dollhouse with an elevator and garage out there!

Conclusion

If you’re still reading this, it means you’re not sure if the KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Dollhouse is the right choice for you. Don’t worry – we know there’s no one-size-fits-all dollhouse.

As we said above, the Melissa & Doug Hi-Rise Wooden Dollhouse is a good gender-neutral dollhouse with an elevator and garage.

It’s a fine choice if you’re shopping for a boy or looking for a dollhouse that both genders will enjoy. This dollhouse is best for younger kids and toddlers, so keep that in mind if you’re shopping for an older kid (age 6+).

If you think the Shimmer Mansion dollhouse will be too big for your home, the Barbie DreamHouse is compact enough for most small spaces.

The price tag is a little bit higher overall, but it’s still a good value if you’re limited on space.
